My training has been rather sub par lately, but there are a lot of changes happening in our house over the next couple of weeks which should allow for me training to really pick up. This also means I do not have any excuses anymore. There is one person in our house whose training has not been sub par in the slightest bit. He has been putting in a lot of time in the water, on his bike and on the treadmill.
hehe just kidding!! I’m talking about the big kid who is rocking his Ironman training. The blog is titled I run, He tris so I guess it’s time to talk more about the triathlete. 🙂 We are into the second full week of his training and things are going great. I say ‘we’ because training for an Ironman is a group effort. I mentioned awhile back that Colin would be using a coach to train for Ironman Chattanooga. We weighed the pros and cons and the pros, by far, won.
After talking to several different people and looking into a few different companies Colin decided he was going to use a guy name Chuck to be his coach. If you want to read about Chuck’s latest achievement check out this Lava article. Colin has only been working with Chuck for a short while but I can’t say enough good things about him. He is on top of his game and is really there for his athletes. He’s not the kind of guy to just send you workouts and say good luck. He checks in, follows through and I know that Colin is going to see some amazing results because of Chuck.
Each Thursday or Friday Colin gets sent his next workouts. These first two weeks are what Chuck is calling ‘base weeks’ where the focus is just on getting out there and moving and not focusing on speed, power, distance or HR. Colin’s scheduled workouts in the first week were 2 swims, 3 bikes, and 2 runs with one of those workouts being a brick. (plus his triathlon on Saturday) This week the schedule is calling for 2 swims, 2 bikes and 2 runs with a rest day 🙂 Colin has also been focusing on getting 2 core workouts and lots of stretching during the week. Things are starting to feel very real in our house. We are about to have some nutritional changes as these base weeks transition into full on training. The countdown is on!!
Have you ever used a coach to train for a race?
