We had four full days in Chattanooga and we tried to fit in as much as possible! Of course there was a lot of Ironman related activities, but that will get its own post. I failed pretty badly at taking any food pictures, but with this head cold I couldn’t taste much so I wouldn’t have been able to really tell you how delicious (or not) the food was. I’m going to try and do this in as few words as possible.
Thursday: Colin, Brice and I got to Chattanooga right before lunch so we grabbed a bite to eat and then headed over to the Ironman village for Colin to pick up all of his stuff. Later in the afternoon we met up with my parents and niece to go out for dinner. It worked out perfectly that my niece’s fall break was last Thursday and Friday so they could bring her up to enjoy Chattanooga! We caught a beautiful sunset and of course had to finish the night off with some ice cream!
Friday: This was a jammed packed busy day! Friday morning Colin and some friends/other Ironman racers went out for one last bike ride. They went and rode the south end of the bike course. While they were doing that we took Brice and my niece to the Creative Discovery Museum. This place was so much fun and I really wish we had something like this here! We would without a doubt take a monthly trip. After spending several hours at the museum we met up with Colin and a friend for lunch and then headed over to the Tennessee Aquarium. Colin’s parents were able to join us for the museum and we all had a blast exploring both the river and ocean buildings. After the aquarium we made what felt like the longest walk ever to go eat some pizza for dinner. There may nor may not have been ice cream involved afterwards. Saturday: Colin had said that he wanted to stay off his feet as much as possible on Saturday. They needed to be rested up for what was to come the next day! Saturday morning we headed back downtown for Colin to check in his bike and drop off all of his gear bags. I had to go to my race volunteer meeting that morning so I did that while Colin spent some more time around the Village. We then met up with our families and headed to get some lunch and watch some football. I knew that I wanted to do some more exploring of Chattanooga so this is where we parted ways. Colin stayed with some friends to watch more football and just relax while Brice and I went with my family to Ruby Falls. We did the guided tour which takes you 260 feet down into the mountain and then you follow a carved out path about a half mile long where you end up at a beautiful underground waterfall. After the tour we grabbed some dinner and then it was bedtime for the Iron-crew!!
Sunday: A full recap of this amazing day is coming at you next week!!
Monday: Travel day. Colin woke up feeling better than I imagined he would so after breakfast and one last trip down to the Ironman Village to buy some FINISHER gear 🙂 it was time to get on the road. Brice had been such a trooper all weekend but he was definitely tired because he passed out after being in the car for only about 20 minutes. Because of this, Colin didn’t want to stop and let me drive so he pushed on until Brice woke up. Then it was my turn to take the wheel and I think Brice enjoyed having a foot rest.
Chattanooga is such a fun city and I highly recommend you make a trip there if you haven’t done so. If you have children (of any age) the museum and aquarium are must see places. It had been about 6 years since I had been to Chattanooga and I forgot how much there was to do. We already want to make another trip back to do more exploring!
