It’s that time of the year again! It’s Round 2 of marathon training. I’ve been a little lacking in the mental preparedness area, but this is my first full week following a training plan since Augusta (70.3 back in Septembers…. hopefully a recap coming soon) I think it’s important to get to a point where you feel “out of shape” No you probably are not out of shape, heck I ran a 6 plus minute half marathon PR when I felt that way. I know my body needs a good chunk of off time to get recharged and ready for the next cycle. I did my first treadmill workout yesterday and it felt good to run fast and it helped light that fire back in my belly.
I will be running the Snickers Marathon in Albany, GA again on March 3rd. Last year the race was on my birthday (the 4th) so I will technically run the same race twice while being 30!! My goal last year was a Boston Qualifying time of 3:35 BUT that was like a dream goal. Being my first marathon I really didn’t know what to expect. When you do that little math conversion of taking your half marathon PR x2 plus 10 minutes I should have ran a 3:46 but I pulled off a 3:36 and some change. I did a horrible job of running the tangents last year and ended up with 26.4 something. If I can do the same thing mathematically this year then I should be in the high 3:20s. OMG that gave me butterflies just typing that time out.
I have 13 weeks and somewhere around 500 miles (I’m a low mile marathoner, but that’s a post for another day!) to get these legs, heart and head prepared to achieve my next goal. I’m excited for the work ahead and to lay it all out there in this training cycle. One thing that will be different this year is that I am going to still be cycling. I do not want to lose all of my triathlon fitness, so there may even be the occasional swim *GASP* thrown in. I also won’t be neglecting the strength work this time around. Basically I just need to get used to always being sore. Thank the Heavens for our Normatecs!! Those bad boys are going to be put through their paces for sure this training cycle.
This little corner of the internet has a special place in my heart and those strings have been pulling pretty strong lately. Hopefully that means this will become more regular than my semi-annual check ins. 🙂 Until next time.
